
Benard Ayieko is an economist, lawyer, Certified Secretary and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He joined the Authority in December 2016 as a Senior Advocacy Officer in charge of Policy, Research and Advocacy. Prior to his appointment as the Manager for Enforcement and Compliance, he worked in the Planning, Policy and Research department of the Authority as a Principal Analyst responsible for conducting sector-specific economic research related to key competition concerns, examining and analyzing policies, laws and bills to ensure compliance with the competition law, coordinating competition law advocacy initiatives with stakeholders and spearheading the implementation of cooperation frameworks with sector regulators and other competition agencies.
CPA Ayieko leads a team responsible for carrying out investigations, competition analysis and sanctioning of Restrictive Trade Practices. He has over sixteen (16) years’ work experience in policy, research, advocacy and trade and investment. He has also worked for a diplomatic mission, international audit, tax and advisory firm, commercial bank, a NGO and in the capital markets field.
CPA Ayieko holds a Master of Arts (Economics), Bachelor of Arts (Economics) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degrees (all from the University of Nairobi). He also holds a post-graduate diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and a diploma in Banking & Finance. He is a member of the Institute of Public Accountants of Kenya and the Institute of Certified Secretaries of Kenya. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
He has numerous certificates on competition law trainings and is a certified Quality Management System ISO 9001:2008 Lead Auditor. He is also an African Development Educator, a certified Director with the Institute of Directors Kenya and a Member of Public Relations Society of Kenya.
