Mr. Omari is a public sector legal counsel with over 15 years of experience. He is responsible for overseeing the realization of the Authority’s core mandate of promoting and safeguarding competition in the national economy through availability of competitive products and services by overseeing investigation and sanctioning impediments to competition, promotion of investment and economic growth by superintending merger control and enhancing and sustaining consumer welfare through protection of consumers from unfair and misleading market conduct.

Until his appointment as Director, he was the Authority’s Corporation Secretary & Manager Legal Services. He previously served as Principal Legal Officer and Head of Legal Division at the Witness Protection Agency of Kenya. His earlier work experience was at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions as Senior Prosecution Counsel and the Office of the Attorney General as State Counsel.

Mr. Omari holds a Master’s in Competition Law from the Brussels School of Competition, a Masters Degree in Law from the University of Zimbabwe, a Bachelor of Law from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law. He is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a member of the Law Society of Kenya, and the East Africa Law Society. He is also a Certified Public Secretary, CPS(K) and a member of the Institute of Certified Secretaries of Kenya (ICS). Mr. Omari has also been trained in competition law, consumer protection law, trial advocacy, prosecution, negotiation, witness and victim protection, leadership, management and communication among others.
